Judging at ISI competitions is done by certified ISI Professional members. All coaches who have students participating in an ISI competition are required to volunteer their time to judge at the event.

In order to become certified to judge at ISI competitions, the Professional must pass at least one level of the ISI Judge Certification Test. The certification test is usually offered during ISIAsia Championship Series competition.

All tests are open-book tests. Most answers can be found in the current edition of the ISI Handbook. The test is used to test the candidate’s knowledge of maneuver requirements, competition events, event levels, penalties, and knowledge of where to find the correct information in current ISI publications. So, you should have a copy of current edition of ISI Handbook along with updated Rule Revisions before taking any test.

There are three ISI Judge Certification tests. The Bronze, Silver and Gold tests must be taken in order. Candidate cannot take Silver and Gold tests on the same day. Each test has 50 Multiple Choice questions. Passing score is 42 and above.

Bronze Test – includes questions from: Pre-Alpha – Delta / Freestyle 1-3 / Bronze Open Freestyle / Couple 1-3 / Dance 1-3 / Pair 1-3 / Stroking / Footwork / Spotlight / Group & Team event questions (not including synchronized team events).

Silver Test – includes questions from: Pre-Alpha – Delta / Freestyle 1-5 / Bronze & Silver Open Freestyle / Couple 1-5 / Dance 1-5 / Pair 1-5 / Stroking / Footwork / Spotlight / Group & Team event questions (not including synchronized team events).

Gold Test – includes questions from all levels and group/team events (not including synchronized team events).

All Professional Members who have passed any level of the ISI Judge Certification tests before September 1, 2024 must take and pass this 2024 Update Test to maintain their current Judge Certification level. The Update test is used to test the understanding of candidate about the rule revisions. Passing score is 28 and above.
